I have taken the liberty to transcribe two small parts of the radio show for my own notes. I figured it would be a good idea to put them up (if it's not allowed please delete this comment).

    Does “jihad” mean “Holy War”?
War is either just or unjust. We don’t have the concept of a “holy war” in Islam. The term doesn’t even exist in Arabic. The concept probably derived from the Crusades—it was a war that had been blessed by the Popes and justified by being linked back to the religion. But from an Islamic perspective, we don’t have a “holy war”. A just war is where it is a just struggle to remove some form of oppression, to establish some aspects of justice, to prevent harm, to bring good, where it is necessary to struggle on that level. Such war is sanctioned by Islam.

    What is the message?
Submitting one’s will to God. The one who created us has a plan and a purpose for us. We have a mission in this life. We are not here by accident. It’s not a situation of anything goes, do what you want to do, life is not only about enjoyment and “to hell with the rest”… this is not what life is about. We have a reason for being here: worshiping God, attaining a status that human beings are capable of attaining through righteousness because it is in righteousness that one ultimately worships God in its fullness. It’s not just going to mosque and worships God, it’s doing good, guiding others to the truth, sharing whatever we have, living a life with care and concern for others, self-sacrifice, caring and love for those who are needy. As a Muslim, one finds contentment and pleasure knowing that one is doing God’s commandments in his or her day-to-day life. It’s about worshipping the one God, and it takes place through living life, dealing with one’s children, wife, neighbors… how we do our jobs, how we study… how we conduct ourselves. All those involve worship. it’s all about developing the best possible character that we can, and in that development we come closer and closer to God.
