BBC News Report – Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) Sunnah protects Babies from brain damage
The episode discusses a BBC news report highlighting how following the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) can protect babies from brain damage. The story shared by Dr. Ahmed Sabil illustrates how a simple practice from the Sunnah, such as rubbing a date with natural sugars in a newborn’s mouth, helped regulate the baby’s blood sugar levels effectively. This practice, dating back over 1400 years, aligns with modern medical research that suggests using a gel with sugar for premature babies can prevent brain damage caused by dangerously low blood sugar. The episode emphasizes the wisdom and blessings found in following the Sunnah, showcasing the relevance and benefits of Islamic teachings in today’s world.
Moreover, the episode aims to provide insights into Islam for non-Muslim viewers by discussing the scientific and prophetic accuracy of the faith. Eddie from The Deen Show highlights the evidence found in the Quran and the life of Prophet Muhammad, such as prophecies and scientific observations, to demonstrate the rationality and authenticity of Islam. By drawing parallels between historical teachings and modern scientific findings, the episode encourages viewers to consider the depth and foresight within Islamic principles. Through a welcoming and informative tone, the episode invites non-Muslims to explore Islam not as blind faith but as a faith with tangible evidence and logical foundations, offering a gift to those seeking the purpose of life and understanding the core beliefs of Islam.

BBC News Report – Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) Sunnah protects Babies from brain damage
Over 1400 years ago, when a child was born, the Prophet ﷺ made it his Sunnah to take a small part of a date and place it in his mouth. He would then chew it until it was soft and then rub it onto the palate of the newborn baby. This is called Taḥnīk.
‘Today’, BBC News has reported that “experts” have said – “A dose of sugar given as a gel rubbed into the inside of the cheek is a cheap and effective way to protect premature babies against brain damage.”
This is why Muslims follow the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ without questioning it. Science is only now discovering a tradition that was introduced 1400 years ago because Islām was and still is at the forefront of development.
