Christianity to Deen

A young man from a Christian family in Warwickshire, England, found himself spiritually lost during his university years — drowning in a hedonistic lifestyle of drinking and socializing that left him empty and disillusioned. His sincere search for meaning led him through Western philosophy, Eastern mysticism, and the poetry of Rumi, until he finally found the truth he had been searching for: Islam.

The Emptiness of University Life Without Faith

Despite growing up attending church weekly, university life quickly stripped away any sense of spirituality. The culture was entirely self-centered — focused on personal pleasure at the expense of everything meaningful. After the first year, the emptiness became unbearable. Deep questions about the purpose of life surfaced, but no one around him could provide answers. Friends thought he was being strange for even asking. So he set out on his own to find the truth.

“I started to feel very disillusioned and very lost. I started asking myself whether this really was what life was about — whether there was something deeper and more meaningful.” — The honest questions that began a life-changing journey.

From Rumi’s Poetry to Prostration

Through reading philosophy and spiritual literature, he discovered the Sufi poets of Islam — particularly Jalal ad-Din Rumi. The poetry moved him to tears and spoke directly to his soul in a way nothing else ever had. One day, while reading a line of Rumi’s verse in the library, he was so overwhelmed that he fell to the floor with an uncontrollable urge to prostrate — without even knowing why. That moment marked the beginning of his journey into Islam, where he discovered that the divine connection he had been seeking was found in the worship of Allah alone.

“Islam is not a stranger. Muslims may be strangers to you, but Islam is not. You do not have to change your culture, your name, or your clothes to become Muslim. The only thing you have to change is your way of thinking and acknowledge that you have a Creator.” — Advice from a sincere revert.

Encouragement for Truth Seekers

  • Follow your heart — if you feel something is missing in your life, that spiritual void can only be filled by connecting with your Creator
  • Islam is easy to follow: acknowledge that there is one God and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His final Messenger
  • You may need courage to face reactions from friends and family, but the sacrifices are small compared to the peace Islam brings
  • Islam adapts to every culture like water — it does not require you to abandon your identity, only to align your beliefs with the truth

This powerful story of conversion from Christianity to Islam through a genuine search for truth is a reminder that Allah guides those who sincerely seek Him. If you are feeling lost or spiritually empty, look into Islam with an honest heart — the answers you have been searching for may be closer than you think.
