Life is full of distractions — nightclubs, money, relationships outside of marriage, and the constant pull of desires. In this energetic episode of The Deen Show, Shaykh Abu Toba addresses the struggle that many people face when they recognize the truth of Islam but find it difficult to let go of their old lifestyle and fully commit. His message is raw, honest, and exactly what anyone sitting on the fence needs to hear: you will make mistakes, but never stop turning back to Allah.
You Will Fall — But Never Stay Down
Shaykh Abu Toba begins with a profound reminder from the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him: “There is not a believing slave except that he commits a sin time after time again.” Allah created human beings sinful and forgetful by nature. The key is not to achieve perfection but to repent immediately every time you fall. The worst thing a person can do is say “I will repent one day” — because that day may never come. Repent now, before the angel of death arrives without warning.
“Don’t be wrong and strong. Repent as soon as you realize you’re making a mistake. Turn to Allah and repent. The first thing we tell the individual is: you will make mistakes as a human, but don’t let that stop you from turning back to God.”
Getting Serious About the Purpose of Life
- Islam is rational and logical — if you take the time to study it, you will see it could only come from the Creator
- Chasing money, clubs, and relationships outside of marriage will never fill the void in your heart — only submission to Allah will
- Have this world in your hand, not in your heart — enjoy the permissible things but never make them your purpose
- Self-defense and physical fitness are encouraged in Islam when done with the right intention — everything can become an act of worship
“You’re not going to get peace by going to the nightclub, paycheck to paycheck, chasing the dollar. Have this world in your hand, not in your heart. Because when it’s time to say bye-bye, if it’s in your hand you can just let it go.”
The message is clear: death is a reality that can arrive at any moment, and no amount of partying, money, or worldly success will prepare you for what comes after. Islam offers the only true peace — peace acquired by submitting your will to the Owner of peace. If you have been delaying your commitment to Allah, the time to start is now. Not tomorrow, not next week, not when you “feel ready.” Turn to Him today, repent sincerely, and know that His mercy is greater than any sin you have ever committed.
