Jew Finds Islam Recites Quran Beautifully

Yakub, a man whose DNA test confirmed he is 100 percent Jewish, shares his remarkable journey from growing up in a reform-conservative Jewish household — attending Hebrew school, having his Bar Mitzvah, and spending time with the ultra-Orthodox Hasidim — to finding true purpose and peace in Islam. His story, filmed outside the future Deen Center in Florida, is a powerful testimony that the truth of Islam transcends all backgrounds.

Growing Up Jewish in America

Yakub describes the spectrum of Jewish observance in America, from reform Jews who are essentially secular but follow traditions, to conservative Jews who keep kosher households, all the way to the Orthodox and ultra-Orthodox communities with their strict adherence to the 613 commandments of the Torah. He grew up somewhere between reform and conservative, memorizing dozens of Hebrew prayers and attending services regularly. Yet despite this religious upbringing, something was missing.

“I like to think the best example is Hanukkah — it’s not really a religious holiday. The standard American Jewish community ties themselves to Judaism by tradition and by community. It’s only once they dislodge themselves, as I did, that they seek out and search for truth elsewhere.”

From Searching to Finding Islam

Once Yakub dislodged himself from the comfort of community belonging and began genuinely searching for truth, everything changed. He discovered that the Islam he was taught to fear was actually the completion of the message that Abraham, Moses, and all the prophets brought. He found that Islam honored Jesus (peace be upon him) as a mighty prophet and messenger, and that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was the final messenger in that same prophetic chain — a truth that resonated deeply with his Jewish understanding of monotheism.

“If the Jewish community learned about Islam and Jesus in Islam, I believe they would accept him. Islam actually completes the message. You have to be searching — the truth is there for those who sincerely seek it.”

The Beauty of Al-Fatiha and the Invitation to All

  • After three years as a Muslim, Yakub beautifully recites Al-Fatiha, the opening chapter of the Quran, in Arabic — a prayer that praises the Creator, affirms His mercy, and asks for guidance to the straight path
  • The reform Jews who pick and choose from the Torah are compared to Muslims who do the same — both fall short when they treat divine guidance like a buffet
  • Yakub’s message to fellow Jews and all seekers: dislodge yourself from the comfort of tradition and community long enough to sincerely search for truth
  • Anyone — Jewish, Christian, Hindu, or atheist — can recite the prayer of Al-Fatiha and ask the Creator alone for guidance with a sincere heart
