One of the biggest obstacles preventing Muslims from getting married today is financial anxiety. Brothers worry they are not financially stable enough, and sisters raise concerns about earning potential. But Allah has made a promise in the Quran that should put every heart at ease.
Allah’s Promise to Provide
When the people of Madinah began avoiding marriage to orphan girls because they were poor, preferring women of wealth and noble lineage instead, Allah revealed a powerful verse promising that He would provide for those who put their trust in Him and do what is right.
“Go ahead and marry, and Allah will grant you sufficiency and make you rich. The Prophet (peace be upon him) tells us that if the children of Adam were to put their trust in Allah just like the bird, Allah would provide for them just like He provides for the bird that leaves its house early in the morning and comes back home fulfilled.”
Trusting the True Provider
Every blessing you have right now came from Allah. Consider these truths:
- Allah provided you with parents who cared for you when you could do nothing for yourself
- You reached your current state in life because Allah provided for you at every stage
- Cheating, cutting corners, or engaging in haram will never increase your wealth
- Wealth only increases when Allah decrees it should increase
“Do not ever think that by cheating or by partaking in haram your wealth will increase. Know that wealth will only increase when Allah says it should increase.”
Put your trust in Allah, take the means He has made available, and move forward with faith. The One who feeds the birds that leave their nests each morning with nothing will certainly provide for His believing servants who take that step of faith toward marriage and family.
