Every human being is a slave, whether they realize it or not. The only real question is: what or whom are you enslaved to? This powerful reminder forces us to confront the invisible chains that bind us in our daily lives and consider what true freedom really means.
The Slavery We Do Not See
Most people think they are free, but a closer look reveals otherwise. Modern life is filled with forms of servitude that people willingly accept without question:
- Slavery to your job, working 14-hour days to meet someone else’s deadline
- Slavery to trends and fashion, blindly following what society dictates
- Slavery to your own desires, eating, drinking, and doing whatever you want without any limits
“True freedom can only be obtained by being a slave to the One who gave you life, the One who will bring you to death, the One who gives you air to breathe, food to eat, and light to see with.”
The Purpose of Our Existence
Allah says in the Quran: “I have not created the spirits and human beings except to worship Me” (Quran 51:56). The Arabic word for worship, ibadah, encompasses far more than prayer alone. It includes obedience, gratitude, and complete submission to the Creator. Every noble prophet, from Noah and Abraham to Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (peace be upon them all), lived as devoted slaves of God.
“Any peaceful person who has submitted themselves to God, the only religion that calls for this complete submission to the Creator and not His creation, is Islam. The word Islam means submission.”
You have two choices: be enslaved by the temporary, ever-changing creations around you, or submit yourself to the Eternal Creator as every prophet did. Take the first step today and sincerely ask your Creator for guidance. That single moment of honesty with God can change everything.
